3 Tourist Routes in Tenerife

In August 2019, Hernán arrived with his parents, Gloria and Juan, with the idea of knowing the Island of Tenerife in TAXI. Hernán, an 8-year-old boy from Badajoz, very funny and intelligent, hence the amount of questions he asked us to know everything. I think that we, the taxi drivers, have enjoyed doing these excursions more than Hernán, Gloria and Juan.

Stayed at the Hotel Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and from there every morning we started the Tourist Routes in TAXI through Tenerife.

Three Tourist Routes were made:

Tour 02.- PLAYA DE LAS TERESITAS – MACIZO DE ANAGA
Tourist Route through the Anaga Rural Park, passing through the Teresitas Beach and returning through San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
Tour 04.- LA OROTAVA – GARACHICO – PUERTO DE LA CRUZ
Get to know the north of the island of Tenerife, La Orotava, Icod de los Vinos, Garachico and Puerto de la Cruz.
Tour 05.- PARQUE NACIONAL DEL TEIDE – SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LA LAGUNA
Ascent to the Teide National Park, to Los Roques de Garcia and back we visit the historic center of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.

TOUR 04.- LA OROTAVA – GARACHICO – PUERTO DE LA CRUZ

Again, we start the Tourist Route in TAXI at the Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey Hotel. At the request of the clients we agreed to change the visit to Puerto de la Cruz and visit Punta de Teno, at 10:30 in the morning we headed north of the island of Tenerife, making short stops at the different viewpoints and points of interest :

Leaving Punta de Teno and back we can only visit Garachico, but first, a stop at the restaurant to regain strength.

Garañona Lookout point

Located in the municipality of El Sauzal about 200 meters above sea level, it shows us one of the best views of the north coast of Tenerife.

The elevator of La Garañona, is located at the entrance of the park and was built approximately in 1956 to climb sand from the beach. Its location is the same since its construction and commissioning. It was only operational for about a week.

The cause of its short period of operation was due to the intervention of the navy, which ordered its immediate shutdown, because one of the parts of the elevator was within the limit that belonged to the navy.

Casa del Vino

The Casa del Vino is an old 17th-century Canarian farm dedicated to the promotion of the quality of the wines of the Island. Inside it houses the Insular Museum of the Vine and Wine of Tenerife. In its tasting room you can taste the wines of the five Denominations of Origin of the Island (Abona, Tacoronte-Acentejo, Güímar Valley, Orotava Valley and Ycoden-Daute-Isora) and buy them in your wine shop and shop.

It also has restaurants and tasca, where you will have the opportunity to try the new creative Canarian cuisine, rescuing old traditional recipes from the Islands.

Baranda Lookout point

At 50 meters from the Casa del Vino we find the Baranda lookout point. In few places on the island you have such impressive views of Teide, from here you can also see the whole north of the island. It is essential to go on a clear day.

Humboldt Lookout point

Humboldt Lookout point is named after the naturalist and father of modern geography (Alexander Von Humboldt), is located on the road of Cuesta La Villa, which connects the town of Santa Ursula with that of La Orotava.

From this lookout point we can see views of the Orotava Valley, its banana plantations and beautiful villages such as Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava and Los Realejos. The volcanoes of El Fraile and Las Arenas and, of course, the majestic Teide are also visible.

Casa de los Balcones

Casa de Los Balcones is a 17th-century house, built in 1632. Considered the most important craft complex in the Canary Islands, this house combines architecture, history, traditions, folklore and handicrafts where you can enjoy not only its famous Canarian drafts but, in addition, of what is, perhaps, the most unique house-museum of Canarian customs and customs.

This house stands out for the patio, typically Canarian, with its large balcony on the last two floors and its lush tropical vegetation.

Millenary Drago of Icod de los Vinos

The Millenary Drago is located in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos, in the north of the island, it is a huge specimen of drago (Dracaena draco) declared a National Monument in 1917.

At present it is the largest and longest known in the world in its kind. It measures about 18 meters high and has a perimeter at the base of a trunk of twenty meters and more than three hundred main branches. It is estimated that in years of good flowering it can produce up to 1,500 bouquets of flowers. The trunk has a huge cavity that rises to 6 m. high, which is accessed by a door. In 1985, a deep cleaning was carried out and a fan was installed inside the trunk to facilitate air circulation and prevent fungal growth.

The age of the dragon tree is estimated at about 800 years.

Punta de Teno

The Punta de Teno, is the westernmost point of the island. You can see the contrast between the steep ravines that lead to small beaches, and the great valleys that give rise to Isla Baja and Teno Bajo. This natural space is home to great biological diversity and is a refuge for some threatened species and local endemisms.

Its old lighthouse is preserved in good condition. From there you can see the best views of the cliffs of Los Gigantes, fascinating structures that descend vertiginously cutting into the sea from heights that reach 600 meters.

Garachico

Garachico, one of the most important historical centers of the Canary Islands. A rich historical-artistic heritage inherited from the past and the special care that has been taken in its conservation, earned him the award, in 1980, of the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts.

Respect for that legacy has made it possible for Garachico to present itself to us today as a valuable example of art in the Canary Islands, particularly urban planning and traditional archipelago architecture.

In February 1994, it was declared by the Canarian Government, of Cultural Interest with the category of Historical Ensemble.
